Get To Know The Soaper
How did you get started making soap?
I got stranded in Hobby Lobby during a rainstorm with my niece who was barely 6 months old at the time. There was no umbrella to be found so I wandered the aisles and discovered the melt and pour. It was love at first pour. I dove into youtube videos, Anne Marie of Brambleberry earned her name as the Soap Queen. I've been doing this as a hobby for years and finally with the encouragement of family and friends decided to make a go of this business thing.
How did you come up with the name of your business?
I passed a street called "Sugarberry Court" and it just stuck with me. When I was writing down words to brain storm, Sugarberry popped into my head. I had a few others, but I knew I had to have it. I checked around and found tons of soap named Sugarberry but not a company.
What is your creative process like?
I do a lot of different things to express myself creatively and I haven't found one process, it honestly is different for each thing I do. For soap, it just pops in depending on what I see. A lace doily - how can I replicate that into soap? A song that makes me feel calm - light blue and gray with some swirls and lavender or chamomile would make a great soap. It's a very in the moment thing. I know some people draw them out or have a plan but I just get inspired and then create.
What do you do to relax and have fun?
It may sound silly, but I play an online MMORPG called World of Warcraft and basically, I explore a virtual world and kill other players.
If you picked a product to represent Sugarberry, what would it be?
It would be a bar of soap, but I could never pick just one. If you look at our Instagram or Facebook page, you'll see what I pick to represent Sugarberry. I work hard on the social media presence. I do everything, including the photography. It isn't perfect but that's the beauty of homemade!
